Professional Soundproofing Solutions for Peace and Privacy

Looking to reduce noise between rooms, block out unwanted sound from neighbors, or create a quiet space for work, sleep, or music? Gordon Drywall and Painting offers expert residential soundproofing services using industry-standard techniques and materials that effectively reduce airborne and impact noise.

From condo party walls and basement suites to home studios and offices, we design soundproofing drywall solutions that suit your space and your needs—whether you’re renovating, building new, or retrofitting an existing room.

Party Walls Between Units, Condos, or Townhouses

Shared walls can easily transmit voices, footsteps, or the sound of TVs and appliances. Soundproofing these party walls helps maintain privacy between households and improves comfort in multi-family dwellings. We use isolation techniques and dense materials to significantly reduce noise transfer between attached homes.

Legal Basement Suites (to Meet STC 55 Code)

To meet building code for legal secondary suites, ceilings and walls separating units must achieve an STC rating of 55 or higher. We build high-performance assemblies that meet or exceed code requirements—using materials like Resilient Channels, RSIC Sound Isolation Clips, Green Glue, Rockwool Safe’n’Sound insulation, Sonopan, QuietRock Drywall, SilentFX Drywall and multiple layers of regular drywall.

Home Offices and Remote Workspaces

Remote work is here to stay, and a quiet environment is essential for productivity. We soundproof home offices to reduce household distractions and improve audio quality for video calls, recordings, or focused work.

Music Practice Rooms and Studios

Drummers, guitarists, and vocalists need serious sound isolation. We build heavy-duty systems—often with double or triple layers of drywall, decoupling, and acoustic damping—to reduce noise bleed and allow uninterrupted practice or recording.

Our Soundproofing Materials and Techniques

Safe’n’Sound® Insulation

We use Rockwool Safe’n’Sound insulation, a high-density mineral wool product designed for sound absorption between walls, floors, and ceilings. It’s fire-resistant and non-combustible, adding both acoustic and thermal performance.

Resilient Channel & RSIC Clips

To create separation between drywall layers and existing framing (decouple) to reduce vibration transfer, we install resilient channel systems and RSIC sound isolation clips with furring channels. These components form a “floating” ceiling/wall structure that helps absorb and dissipate sound energy.

Green Glue Damping Compound

Green Glue is a high-performance damping compound applied between layers of drywall. It converts sound vibrations into heat, dramatically reducing noise transmission through walls, ceilings, and floors.

QuietRock, SilentFX & Acoustic Drywall

For higher-performance applications, we install acoustically engineered drywall products like QuietRock or SilentFX. These soundproofing drywall sheets offer high STC ratings in a thinner, more space-efficient form factor.

Putty Pads for Electrical Boxes

To eliminate sound leaks at outlet and switch boxes, we apply acoustic putty pads that seal the back of each box, reducing flanking paths and maintaining wall performance.

Multi-Layered Systems for Maximum Isolation

For demanding applications—like drum rooms, home theaters, or recording studios—we build double or triple-layered wall assemblies with decoupling, damping, and dense core materials to maximize sound isolation.

Sonopan Acoustic Panels

Sonopan is a versatile, eco-friendly fiber panel used to enhance wall and ceiling assemblies for superior sound control. Made from 100% recycled wood fibers and featuring patented Noise STOP Technology, Sonopan panels help absorb and block a wide range of sound frequencies, including challenging bass tones. Installed behind drywall, they add mass and absorb sound energy without significantly increasing wall thickness. Sonopan is ideal for bedrooms, home offices, shared walls, or any space where you want extra acoustic privacy.

Why Invest in Home Drywall Soundproofing?

Soundproofing
  • Improve peace and quiet between rooms or floors

  • Block out street noise or noisy neighbors

  • Create better acoustic separation in secondary suites (as required by code)

  • Increase comfort in home offices, nurseries, and bedrooms

  • Meet STC (Sound Transmission Class) ratings required for legal suite construction

What Is STC Rating (and Why It Matters)

STC (Sound Transmission Class) is a rating that measures how well a wall or ceiling assembly reduces airborne sound. The higher the number, the better the sound isolation.

  • Normal interior walls often have an STC of 30–35

  • Building codes for new legal suites typically require STC 55

  • Our soundproofing systems will range from a basic STC 55 rating, to as high as an STC 90+ rating with the proper design and layering

We’ll recommend the right combination of materials based on your soundproofing goals and any code requirements you may need to meet.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ceiling & Wall Soundproofing

Yes. In many cases, we can retrofit existing rooms by adding layers of soundproof drywall, resilient channel, and insulation without removing the entire wall assembly.

A combination of Safe’n’Sound insulation, resilient channel with clips, Green Glue, and double drywall typically provides strong sound isolation for shared walls between suites or attached homes.

Most standard systems add 1 to 2 inches to the wall depth. Higher-performance systems with triple layers may require more space. We’ll walk you through the options during the quote.

Yes. In many municipalities, legal secondary suites must meet a minimum STC 55 rating between dwelling units. We design our systems to meet or exceed that requirement.

Absolutely. Once the soundproofing system is installed, we can complete all boarding, taping, sanding, and painting for a smooth, finished look.
